The Bennington Museum located in Bennington, Vermont has a wide collection of American Art and has thirteen galleries of permanent and changing exhibits from "Grandma" Moses located in the Grandma Moses Gallery and other master artists, new paintings by Paul Feeley, Helen Frankenthaler and Jules Olitski.
"Grandma" Moses did not start painting until she was 70 years old, she was born in 1860 and died in 1961. Her real name was Ana Mary Robertson Moses, she lived a very productive life and a long life doing what she loved, painting.

A spectacular exhibit with over 220 artifacts frozen in time with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
When this exhibit was presented in Toronto in 2015 more than 273,00 visitors attended this great exhibit.

The paintings of Lawren Harris (1885-1970) will be on exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts of his 20th-century art. This exhibit will run from March 12, 2016 - June 12, 2016.
There will be 30 major paintings of Harris's vision of northern landscapes. In addition there are other exhibits at the museum.

An interesting art museum located in Framingham, MA which is 30 miles west of Boston.
Danforth Art educates the public with its collection of American art, with changing exhibits of contemporary artists, classes and workshops.
Focusing on American art from the 18th century to the present day. There are over 3,500 works of art which offer opportunities for aspiring artists and for the general public to see and enjoy.
For art lovers this would be a wonderful place to visit !

In 1907 Edward and Marian Mac Dowell founded The Mac Dowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire where the popular Mt. Monadnock is located.
The Mac Dowell Colony serves as a retreat for artists which includes, artists, composers, playwrights, poets, and writers. For one to be invited you must be approved by a committee.
There are between 20 to 30 artists there at any one time and the longest any artist can stay is two months. Room and board is free and there are 32 studios on the 450 acres in this colony and each studio is a seperate building.
75 winners of The Pulitzers have attended the colony and over 7,500 have studied at the colony, those are impressive numbers and brings great pride to the colony.
Many philanthropists have contributed to the Mac Dowell Colony, to mention a few; Andrew Carnegie,
former President Grover Cleveland and financier J.P. Morgan.

Michae Chabon who worked on " The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay"
Aaron Copland composed " Appalachian Spring"

DuBose Heyward wrote the novel "Porgy" which was the basis for the play Porgy & Bess.
Thornton Wilder wrote his play "Our Town" and won a Pulitzer Prize.
The artists mentioned above is only a partial listing ! Medal Day is the one day when the public is invited, I for one would love to attend Medal Day! I live only one hour away so it would be an easy drive for me but for others it would involve a great distance.
