Salvador Dali was a surrealist Spanish painter well known during the 1900s. He was known for using good use of his imagination, and sometimes he had spontaneous behavior that others noticed and didn't always quite agree with, but that greatly contributed to the success of his artwork.

His most famous work was The Persistence of Memory, which he completed in 1931. Some of his other notable works include Basket of Bread, Swans Reflecting Elephants, and Landscape near Figueras.

Featured Painter: Wassily Kandinsky

Russian painter and art theorist Wassily Kandinsky is credited with becoming the first painter to paint one of the first purely abstract works in the art world. He was known for being part of the movements involving Expressionism, Modern Art, German Expressionism, and Abstract Art.

Some of his most famous works include Yellow-Red-Blue, Houses at Murnau, In Grey, and Improvisation 19.

He based his abstract work on his development through his artistic and even life experiences. Bringing his inner feelings onto his canvases is perhaps why he was well known for his art during his time period.

"Every work of art is the child of its age and, in many cases, the mother of our emotions. It follows that each period of culture produces an art of its own which can never be repeated."-Wassily Kandinsky
